Overview

Clayton staff strives to strategically and smartly grow our safe, beautiful and diverse community by providing excellent emergency services, community oriented programming, local business support and enhancing the public infrastructure, while maintaining our small town character and agricultural roots. The City of Clayton was established in 1999, following the merger of the Village of Clayton and Randolph Township. The City is led by six Council Members and a Mayor who appoint a City Manager to handle day-to-day functions. Clayton has a population of 13,269 (Source: US Census) and covers 18.5 square miles. The City is located in the west-central portion of the state and is a suburb of Dayton, Ohio. Right next to Interstate-70, Clayton is conveniently located for businesses and residents who travel throughout the region. We are only 10 minutes away from the Dayton International Airport, which is great for people who travel for a living. Clayton has been recognized in rankings for the state of Ohio as the "Best Place to Raise A Family" in Montgomery County as well as the "Safest City" in Montgomery County. As part of the Northmont School District, Clayton is proud of the educational accomplishments of our students. The School system has been named a Excellent or Excellent with Distinction by the State of Ohio since 2002. Committed to providing the highest level of service for our residents, Clayton's staff works hard to maintain fiscal balance and has been awarded the Distinguished Budget Award as well as the Certificate of Achievement in Financial Reporting in consecutive years for over the past decade; both awards are from the Government Finance Officers Association.
