Higher Education

Overview

CiTUA is a R&D Unit housed at Instituto Superior Tecnico (IST) rated with Excellent by FCT- The Portuguese Science and Technology Foundation (FCT UIDP/05703/2020). CiTUA covers some of the most interesting contemporary research topics in the field of Territory, Urbanism and architecture. The research in CiTUA is organised in two lines intertwined, where both scales and the concerns to respond to different social, economic and cultural contexts, are present: LINE 1: Emerging forms of inhabiting space in the contemporary urban territories resulting from evolving social demands. LINE 2: Planning, management, and governance of contemporary urban territories in scarcity, different socio-economic and climate change contexts. These two lines express CITUA researchers’ contribution to a growing field of cross-cultural studies and interdisciplinary scholarship that uses concepts from humanistic, social, scientific, and technical disciplines. CiTUA has 28 fully integrated PhD researchers coming from various scientific fields such as Civil engineer, Territorial engineering, Architecture, Landscape Architecture Geography, Environmental engineering among others. The team also includes 40 PhD students and about 12 other researchers.
