Overview

Child Aid Ireland-India was founded in 1996 to help the poorest of the poor in Tamil Nadu, a province in the south east of India, through child sponsorship, education and much more. The charity today has no paid staff but we are about to (March 2012) employ a part-time person. There are many unpaid volunteers. We have recently implemented a sophisticated system based around Salesforce software to enable us to manage details of children, sponsors and projects. Today we have over 1,100 children in sponsorship sponsored by 900 sponsors in Ireland. Each year we also undertake the building of various projects from schools, medical centres, orphanages, water holes etc. Since 1996 over 4,000 children have been sponsored and the charity has built 32 schools, 3 medical dispensaries, 5 medical projects, 14 orphanages, 3 buses/ambulances, drilled 33 bore well, 158 houses, and provided cows for many poor widows. Our work in India is carried out through CAT. Child Aid Trust. CAT has an office in Polur, Tamil Nadu, and about 150 km from Chennai. The trust has two full-time staff, and six part-time staff.
