Overview

The Changjiang River Scientific Research Institute (CRSRI, it had been YRSRI before 2005 for the used name Yangtze River Scientific Research Institute), one of the state non-profit-making scientific research organizations, subordinate to the Changjiang Water Resources Commission of the Ministry of Water Resources, was established in 1951. CRSRI offers sci-tech supports for national water conservancy, harnessing and development of the Yangtze River as well as water administration. Taking sci-tech research of water resources and hydropower first, CRSRI also provides technical services for various fields concerned with the construction of national economy. CRSRI is composed of 12 research departments and several sci-tech enterprises, mainly engaging in following specialties: flood control and disaster mitigation, river silt, water resources and ecologic environment, soil and water conservation, engineering safety and disaster prevention, spatial information technology application, hydraulics, geotechnique and seepage, rock mechanics, hydraulic structure, foundation treatment, building materials, blasting and anti-seismic, electromechanical control equipment, automation and hydraulic instruments, etc.. CRSRI boasts a staff of more than 800, including more than 140 doctors and masters who have got their doctor or master degree, 38 experts entitled to Government Special Allowance (GSA), and more than 240 senior engineers. It has set up scientific research bases in Wuhan, Yichang, Chongqing and Danjiangkou, covering an area of more than 900000m2, of which, the Flood Control Model of Yangtze River in Wuhan with an area of 400000m2 is the largest physical model in the world. The Key Laboratory of Rivers and Lakes Harnessing and Flood Control of Ministry of Water Resources (MWR), the Key Laboratory of Geotechnical Mechanics & Engineering of MWR, the Research Center of Water Engineering Safety and Disaster Prevention of MWR, and the Engineering Quality Inspection Center of Changjiang River Scientific Research Institute have been set up in CRSRI. It possesses qualification certificates of engineering consultancy, safety assessment for large and medium scale reservoir & dam, surveying and mapping, water resources evaluation, soil and water conservation monitoring, geological hazard control engineering design, engineering construction supervision and engineering construction, and also possesses the archives of the state second level. The Department of Post-graduate Education of CRSRI possesses Master's degree program of first-level discipline in hydraulic engineering and Master's degree programs of subordinate disciplines in geotechnical engineering, hydraulics and river dynamics. The "Journal of Yangtze River Scientific Research Institute", one of the Chinese core journals is issued at home and abroad. CRSRI obtained the Metrology Accreditation Certificate in 1993 and ISO9001 Quality System Certificate in July 2000.
