Centre for Circular Design at University of the Arts London is a leading voice in academic design research and knowledge exchange. It was co-founded in 2017 by Professor Becky Earley and Dr. Kate Goldsworthy, following many years of successful research leadership at Textile Futures Research Centre (TFRC, 2010-2017) and Textiles Environment Design (TED, 1996-2017), The team focus on using practice research approaches to steer and support circular economies and communities around the globe. Design has been an important element of the resource-intensive production and consumption systems of the 20th Century. It continues to play a significant role in the damaging impacts on natural systems and human populations throughout the textile supply chain. By bringing together academic and industry research CCD explores design for circular contexts with approaches ranging from emerging technology, systems design, materials, tools, user behaviour and social innovation. The Centre brings together UAL research staff, PhD students, national and international academic researchers, cultural institutions, industry and commerce to create new connections to support people and planet. Circular Design Lab (CDL) is the teaching arm of Centre for Circular Design. This provides a way for the exciting research undertaken by our co-directors, post-doc and PhD researchers to be disseminated to students, UAL staff, wider research community and the public. The Lab creates the space for us to provide knowledge exchange through lecturing, teaching and events. We provide consultancy and knowledge exchange services to clients: this includes sustainable and circular design education and training; new materials and product development; thought leadership and direction; report writing and analysis; future scoping and scenario modelling. Recently completed projects include Mistra Future Fashion (2011-2019); Trash-2-Cash, H2020 (2015-2018). Current projects include British Fash/Textiles Tech (AHRC).
