Overview

The Virginia Tech Center for Peace Studies and Violence Prevention (CPSVP) aims to reduce violence and promote peace by fostering transdisciplinary research among faculty and students in the area of peace and conflict studies. CPSVP faculty and affiliates focus on violence ranging from the interpersonal to that involving state or state-like actors. In addition to acts of direct violence that afflict our societies, workplaces, schools, streets, and homes, we also focus on understanding issues of structural violence (e.g. issues of human rights and social justice) that are often the root causes of direct violence. Our vision is to promote peace and advance human security locally and globally through scholarship, education, and community outreach.
