Overview

21st Century support for adults with a learning disability, autism or Asperger syndrome using innovative methods. I have run our Medway Council contracted day centre since 2010. We have a large, open-plan unit at The Pentagon in the centre of Chatham and we support adults with moderate learning disabilities or autism who benefit from interesting, engaging activities with digital inclusion being a key focus. Both recreation and education are important. Activities and equipment include: 5 laptops; computer training; console gaming such as PS2, PS3 and PS4, Wii and X-Box; mini-cinema with 100s of films and YouTube and Amazon Prime streaming; coffee lounge with TV and leather sofas; train set; gym equipment including exercise bike; musical instruments, including full size piano, electronic keyboard, singing stage, guitars, violin and trumpet; slate bed pool table;100s of books on almost every subject; model making bench; jigsaw puzzles etc and more. Sky rolling news is on all day and we provide newspapers every day as we try to make our clients feel more involved with what is going on in the world. We truly see and support our clients as the adults that they are and we develop detailed Care Plans with the outcomes desired specific to each client. We specialise in interesting day trips and especially transport focused ones such as plane spotting and airshows but also museums; castles; animal parks; river cruises; football matches; theatre trips and more. Bowling and golf are also popular. I also provide job interview training that is specially designed to help autistic individuals over the job interview hurdle and we try to help clients get part-time jobs if they wish to do this.
