Overview

The Cooperative Economics Alliance of New York City (CEANYC) strengthens and expands community-led, democratically-controlled initiatives — from worker, financial and consumer co-ops to community land trusts and gardens, mutual housing, and low-income housing co-ops. Our goal is to build an economy based on values of social and racial justice, ecological sustainability, cooperation, mutualism, and democracy. We are fiscally sponsored by the Social Good Fund, based out of California, but CEANYC itself is based in New York City and proudly serves the five boroughs. Cooperation and solidarity economy practices are hardly new, but CEANYC brings communities, organizations, and leaders practicing economic cooperation in the five boroughs together under a single umbrella for the first time. As a democratically managed alliance composed of 50+ member organizations, we serve those marginalized by the dominant economy including low-income communities, people of color, women, immigrants, and youth. Together, we seek to close the racial wealth gap and promote economic security through collective ownership within an economy that recognizes and abides by planetary limits and the needs of all life.
