Overview

The ASEAN Insurance Council (AIC) has always sought to strengthen ties amongst its members. Under its auspices and governance and the initiative of the ASEAN Natural Disasters Research Works Sharing (ANDREWS) Committee. CARMA was created to give easy access to information and foster communication that can unify its members in times of catastrophe. CARMA is designed to offer fast and convenient access to catastrophe related documents and articles in order to spread knowledge and enhance awareness on disaster risk reduction and management to companies and organisations, as well as individuals interested in expanding their familiarity regarding these issues. As such, CARMA offers a new approach in the sphere of collaborative information sharing, rating, and the crediting of individuals and institutions for their valued contributions. CARMA (Catastrophe and Risk Management in ASEAN) is a non-profit media portal for sharing awareness about catastrophe and disaster risk management information in the ASEAN. It is an easy-to-access site where users can set up their own account to search for data, post papers and register projects. Anyone can browse the site, do searches by geography or topic, and download academic papers or projects of interest. The system automatically sends emails to interested parties or project leaders when projects or research papers meet their areas of interest. Furthermore, subscribed users are routinely sent summaries or articles reflecting their respective areas of interest and chosen topics with the user determining the frequency of email notifications. Researchers, academics, institutions and interested parties can upload papers and projects by subject including Cyclone, Drought, Earthquake, Flood, Landslide, Pandemics, Tsunami, as well as, Disaster Risk Management among others. Since the information is freely available, the papers can be assessed by readers through an online rating system. CARMA is made possible with the sponsorship of Catalytics Pte Ltd and the intellect of its executives and staff. Catalytics is a leading partner for quality catastrophe modelling and risk management to the ASEAN and other surrounding regions. Catalytics Pte Ltd also manages the role of the Editor-in-chief, which is undertaken by the Chairman of Catalytics, and dedicated staff employed to create and service the requirement of CARMA.
