Overview
Western Australia has over 230,000 carers. Carers are people who provide unpaid care and support to family members and friends who have a disability, mental health challenge, chronic condition, terminal illness, an alcohol or other drug dependency or who are frail aged. Over 2.65 million Australians provide help and support to a family member or friend. The chances are you are a carer or know a carer. Unpaid carers provide an estimated 1.9 billion hours of care every year, saving the Australian Government up to $77.9 billion per year yet many carers are in poor health, and face financial hardship and social isolation. That's where Carers WA comes in. Our role is to work in active partnership with carers, persons with care and support needs, health professionals, service providers, government and the wider community to achieve an improved quality of life for carers as well as offering services to carers. Our services include the provision of specialist information and advice, resources, carer support through counselling, education/training, social support and carer advocacy and representation. Carers WA Australia acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land, and pays respect to Elders past, present and future.
