Overview

Carelabs aims to assist companies active in (med-)tech innovation with solutions for (medical) image and signal analysis problems. Additionally, Carelabs is involved in the development of (mobile) applications for medical decision support, thus aiming to improve daily clinical practice. Carelabs has approximately 20 years of experience with (bio)medical image analysis, using many different techniques and image sources, such as MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), CT (computed tomography), X-Ray, and US (ultrasound). Carelabs has a large network, both in academia (inside and outside of the Netherlands) and in the clinical environment (cardiologists, anaesthesiologists, radiologists, etc.). Most of the experience has been gained in the field of cardiovascular image analysis and clinical research, with techniques for image segmentation, motion and deformation (strain) analysis, analysis of the pulmonary circulation based on contrast-enhanced ultrasound and MRI. Often model-based techniques are used, such as active (shape) models for segmentation, and mathematical models to describe the passage of a contrast agent through different parts of the circulation. Besides the cardiovascular field, we have experience in image analysis supporting tissue engineering. Carelabs was founded by Hans van Assen in 2017, after he worked in an academic hospital (LUMC, 8+ years) and at the Eindhoven University of Technology at the departments of Biomedical Engineering and Electrical Engineering (11 years)
