UNESCO Dakar, also known as the UNESCO Regional Multisectoral Office for West Africa in Dakar, in addition to its role as a liaison with the United Nations Development Coordination Office (UNDCO), covers, beyond the Sahel region, the fifteen countries of West Africa, namely: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Côte d'Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo. It encompasses all areas of UNESCO's expertise.
