Overview
The Buller district is a great and beautiful place to be. With an enviable climate, laid back lifestyle and close knit community, the Buller District is a great place to live, work and visit. Our 8574 square kilometres boasts two national parks, one forest park and two heritage areas, all offering the opportunity to experience peace and tranquility or excitement and adventure. Our district is unbeatable in its diversity, and you are welcome to experience both. Stretching from Punakaiki in the south to Karamea in the north, and inland as far as Springs Junction, the district is home to a population of just under 10,000. The Buller District Council is the territorial authority for the northern West Coast. Our goal is to promote the well-being of our local communities. We have a wide range of responsibilities under the Local Government Act. Our mission is - 'To serve the residents of the Buller district, conscious of their needs, by providing facilities and services and creating an appropriate environment for progress and development.' Local government affects you daily. We encourage you to get to know us and to find out more about how you can participate in local decision making.
