From a discussion during a Mission-X Programme by Youth Corps Singapore, the founders of buddy carnival were enthusiastic in pursuing a cause to meet the needs of the special needs community. In our research, we found that people still hold prejudices and misconceptions of people with differing abilities. We also discovered that people with special needs are mistreated by the public and often get unnoticed. Therefore, through our events, we hope that participants get to learn and understand what life with special needs entails. We encourage our participants to share their experiences and inspire more people to join, learn, and stand up for those who cannot. Our team consists of members from various polytechnics and diverse backgrounds. With our collective perspectives, strengths, and effort, we are able to host events that are effective at meeting the needs of the community while also encouraging the public to be more inclusive and proactive. Buddy carnival aims to host events annually, with events that grow larger in scale than the previous ones while still having its core mission fulfilled; Breaking down cultural and institutional barriers through harmonious interaction.
