Overview

Boston University Mars Rover is a student-run organization established in 2018 where we designed an innovative Mars exploration rover from scratch to compete in the annual University Rover Challenge. The competition is held on Mars Desert Research Station with over 100 teams representing over twelve countries worldwide. Our club aims to promote hands-on engineering to future engineers, providing them a taste of real-world industry experience they do not encounter in a lecture hall. Our team consists of 8 Sub-Teams: Mobility Chassis Hardware, Robotics Arms Hardware, Robotic Arms Software, Autonomous Navigation, Communications Software, Power Systems, Life Detection, and Marketing. Each sub-team has its projects that contribute to the team running smoothly and completing the Rover; you can find some of their work showcased here, on our website, or our Instagram! BU Mars Rover is not only for engineering students but anyone interested in applying the skills they learn in class or even learning new ones! In fact, in 2022, about 30% of members are from the College of Art and Science, according to our stats. Even though having a successful competition is our end goal, our primary focus is to give our members a fun engineering and team experience to prepare for their futures in the workforce. If you are interested in working with us or joining our team, feel free to email us at bumrc@bu.edu. We will be at Boston University's student organization fair, splash, in early September and January!
