Overview

The Brunei Students’ Union was formed in 1959. It was a time when students from Brunei were being sent overseas for higher education. A great many of them were sent to the United Kingdom and Ireland to study. Amongst these students were some who believed that there should be an organisation run by students for students. A student body representing those in the UK and Eire, designed to help students feel ‘at home’ away from Brunei. Events and activities were organised to bring together Bruneian Students and to form long-lasting relationships. Through the Union, members helped each other in all aspects, be it in terms of social issues, student welfare, academic studies or religious understanding. From then and indeed until the future, the BSU reflects the whole of the students in the United Kingdom and Eire. The founding members and those who followed them early on are now great men and women of the present, contributing in their own individual ways to the everlasting independence of our country Brunei Darussalam 25 years after the founding of the BSU. Let us now not follow the footsteps of those before us, but instead let us seek new paths to success!
