The “Biosimilarsverband Österreich“ is a voluntary representative of the interests of biosimilars providers and producers. Biosimilars are equivalent “follow-up products” of biopharmaceuticals that have been admitted on the market for many years, but whose patents have expired. Therefore, they are an affordable alternative for expensive therapies. Our goal: Providing access to innovative biopharmaceutical drug therapies for patients that are sustainably affordable. Our members are A-med GmbH, Amgen GmbH, Astro Pharma GmbH, Mylan Pharma, ratiopharm Arzneimittel Vertriebs GmbH, Sandoz GmbH und STADA Arzneimittel GmbH. These companies covered more than 85% of the Austrian biosimilar market in 2016. Our Goals: • Providing educational work around the equivalence of the effect and security of a biosimilar in comparison to the original pharmaceutical product. • Providing patients with an appropriate access to modern biopharmaceutical drug therapies and making them financially affordable. • Building awareness among all key decision-makers in the health care system that the big cost saving opportunities in the pharmaceutical sector can only be obtained with fair pricing and fair competitive conditions of biosimilars. • We want to convince health insurance companies, doctors, pharmacists and patients that only the collaboration of all involved parties can strengthen the confidence in biosimilars and also increase their usage.
