Overview

Biorefining centre developing ways of converting plants and wastes into products. As a subsidiary of the University of York, we are an open-access Research, Development & Demonstration centre working at the interface between academia and industry to develop, scale-up and help commercialise bio-based products and processes. Focused on business needs, we bridge the gap between laboratory development and commercial manufacture by providing open access scale-up processing facilities. We can develop methods at laboratory scale, and scale up processes to demonstrate their commercial potential, typically at the 1-100 litre or 1-100 kg scale. Our lab facilities, outreach facilities and flexible office spaces are available to hire. The BDC is home to the BioVale Innovation Cluster, an initiative that promotes and develops the circular bioeconomy across Yorkshire and the Humber. BioVale supports clients to build partnerships or collaborations, develop entrepreneurship skills, offer communication and marketing advice and help access overseas markets for clients wanting to build bio-based supply chains and inward investment. No matter what stage your business is at, we have the facilities, space and expertise to help you innovate, scale up and grow.
