Overview
Biomedical and Genome Science Initiative (BGSi) is Indonesia's first integrated genomic research initiative in order to leap into the era of precision medicine. BGSi is located within RSUPN Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo complex in Jakarta. BGSi’s short-term goal is establishing the biobank and registry platforms including facilities in addition to an effort focusing on disease-specific unmet needs using targeted sequencing or other genome-based techniques. In the medium term, BGSi plans to continue building the biobank and human whole genome sequence (hWGS) references for diseases and controls. Longer-term, the goal is to establish omics data (proteomics, transcriptomics, and immunomics) and to analyze hWGS data using demographic, clinical, and omics data. Currently, BGSi has six Hubs with different research topics. The 6 Hubs are Cancer, Infectious Diseases, Brain & Neurodegenerative Diseases, Metabolic Diseases, Genetic Disorders, and Aging, Nutrition & Wellness.
