Overview

Berlin Metals opened in 1932 as Hokin Steel & Tinplate and was purchased by the Berlin family in 1967. In 2018, Berlin Metals joined the Olympic Steel family of businesses, delivering on a strategy of continued safe, sustainable and profitable growth. With minimal customer overlap, the acquisition was a perfect complement to Olympic Steel’s existing operations. Operating today with four coil slitters in Hammond, IN (25 minutes south of downtown Chicago), Berlin Metals is one of the largest service center distributors focused on light gauge prime tin mill coiled products (tin plate, black plate, TFS) and stainless-steel strip globally. Other metals include mill finished aluminum, prefinished and galvanized steel. Berlin also provides tolling services for a variety of light gauge metals. Customers of Berlin Metals are leaders in the manufacturing of automotive, chimney liners and transportation components, residential windows, telecommunications cables, computer and electronic parts, hardware and other stampings. Berlin Metals is an Olympic Steel company.
