Overview

Bells society recycles agro-waste such as fruit waste and coconut coir using microbe. The process is simple, efficient, easily scalable and can be carried out not only in laboratory but also in homes. This is both an eco-friendly project and a social business project, where we partner with local villagers whose had inconsistent earning in Cidaun, Cianjur, West Java. We give them basic training on how to produce the materials. This material can then be used as a substitute in textile industry, which is currently dominated by products that is not eco-friendly and often harms environment during its production. It is estimated that each year in Indonesia, about 145 M tonnes of agricultural biomass are produced. The organic biomass contains large amount of carbon source and nutrients that can be used as a source of energy for the bacteria that are used to produce microbial cellulose [1]. It’s also known that the production of synthetic textile are some of the cause of fresh water pollution, almost 20% of all fresh water pollution is caused by textile treatment process and dyeing process. Our product can be the solution to an eco-friendly and sustainable textile industry.
