Big Brothers Big Sisters of Snohomish County

Civic and Social Organizations

Overview

For more than 100 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters has operated under the belief that every child has the potential to do something great. As the nation’s largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”), ages 6 through 18. We develop positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people. We partner with parents/guardians volunteers and others in the community and hold ourselves accountable for each child in our program achieving: higher aspirations, greater confidence, and better relationships; avoidance of risky behaviors; and educational success. The Big Brothers Big Sisters Mission is to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. There are more than 270 affiliates across the country serving nearly 2 million children over the past 10 years. We know our work is changing lives all across the country, and we are confident that we are bettering our communities as we see the changes happening. In Snohomish County, 94% of our Littles feel socially accepted, 91% have a special adult in their lives, and 87% avoid risky behaviors. Our Littles are achieving greater success in their personal and academic lives. Supporting our agency by becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister, or by helping fund our programs, may be one of the most enjoyable things you’ll ever do…not to mention one of the most fulfilling. You have the opportunity to help shape a child’s future for the better by empowering them to achieve.
