Overview

The Regional Centre was established to assist parties on the implementation of The Basel Convention and The Stockholm Convention. The Basel Convention is a United Nations (UN) environmental treaty on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Waste and their Disposal consist of 187 Parties (Countries). The Stockholm Convention is a UN environmental treaty on Persistent Organic Pollutants consist of 184 Parties. Indonesia has been selected during the 3rd of the Conference of the Parties (COP) of the Basel Convention in 1995 to host The Basel Convention Regional Centre for Southeast Asia (BCRC-SEA). The Indonesian Government issued Presidential Regulation No. 60/2005 on 12 October 2005 to strengthen the framework agreement of the Regional Centre. Furthermore, at the 6th meeting of the COP of the Stockholm Convention in 2013, BCRC-SEA was endorsed as one of the Stockholm Convention Regional Centre (SCRC-Indonesia). The Basel and Stockholm Conventions Regional Centre for Southeast Asia (BSCRC-SEA) served 10 Parties: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.
