Overview

The Augustinian Volunteers are recent college graduates who feel called to spend a year in service to others while living in an intentional community. Volunteers serve with local community partners in social service, campus ministry, and education placements. By engaging in a way of life inspired by the Augustinian Friars, volunteers experience personal and spiritual development as they build relationships with fellow volunteers and those they serve. There are three central values to the Augustinian Volunteer experience: Service, which is not just limited to the schools and social service sites with which the Augustinian Volunteers partner; volunteers are expected to be in service to one another in community life as well. Spirituality, which is woven through all aspects of the Augustinian Volunteer experience. Through community prayer and retreats, it is hoped that volunteers can develop a rich interior prayer life and a deeper understanding of their relationship with God. Community, which is an essential feature of Augustinian life, plays a central role in the life of the Augustinian Volunteers. Volunteers are asked to prioritize community living before everything else, and to seek opportunities to grow in a community of love. Mission: Inspired by St. Augustine’s search for a greater understanding of God through self-discovery and communal life, the Augustinian Volunteers celebrate the restless hearts of young adults by inviting them to experience an intentional way of life that honors the dignity of others through community, spirituality, and service. In the Catholic tradition, volunteers build transformative relationships, inspiring an enduring commitment to the common good.
