Overview

AUWS connects and empowers women and gender non-conforming (GNC) students within the Faculty of Science at the University of Auckland. Due to the gender imbalance within large sections of the faculty, many women/GNC people feel increasingly isolated in their studies. Particularly after an extended period of lockdowns and online learning, where in-class socialisation has not been possible, we believe that there is a need for more social and academic connection between female/GNC students in the faculty, and our newly formed group aims to facilitate this. With this ethos in mind, we run a range of events including social/recreation gatherings and professional development opportunities. Our events are open to any student, however each event is designed to be a safe space for genders who are traditionally marginalised within the STEM community. We are always open to collaboration for events or marketing opportunities, having run several successful collaborative events since the group's conception. Feel free to reach out!
