Overview

Ashington Town Council is the first tier of local government for the town of Ashington (population 28,278 at 2021 census), within the unitary authority of Northumberland (population 320,576 at 2021 census). The Council covers six wards of the town. These are: Bothal Central College Haydon Hirst Seaton The Council is served by 18 elected representatives (Town Councillors). There are three Town Councillors for each ward. The Council is advised by a Clerk/Responsible Financial Officer, and other officers. The Clerk/Financial Responsible Officer is a legally required and appointed role. Ashington Town Council is financed, in the main, by the taxpayers of Ashington, via the precept collected by Northumberland County Council (via Council Tax) and paid over to Ashington Town Council. Ashington Town Council has a Gross Budget of £1.3 million.
