ASECNA

Overview

ASECNA is a public international organisation created in 1959 with the primary mission of providing air navigation services to ensure the safety and regularity of flights in the airspace entrusted to it by the 18 Member States. With an airspace covering an area of 16,100,000 km2 (1.5 times the size of Europe) divided into 6 Flight Information Regions (F.I.R) defined by the Organisation, ASECNA is a successful model of cooperative airspace management and an undisputed leader in South-South cooperation, winning the Edward Warner Award in 1972. ASECNA is a strong advocate for the integration of the African sky through its Single Sky for Africa (CUPA) programme, and also makes technical and institutional cooperation a fundamental option for dealing with changes in the aviation sector. Its "SBAS for Africa and the Indian Ocean" programme, recognised by the ICAO as service provider n°7, positions the Agency at the heart of the global SBAS infrastructure, the development of which is in full swing.
