Archivo Diseño y Arquitectura

Overview

Archivo Diseño y Arquitectura is a space dedicated to collecting, exhibiting and rethinking the design in all its diversity. Through its unique collection of more than 1500 objects, ranging from early industrial Mexican design and anonymous products of popular culture to limited editions and international design icons of the XXth and XXIst centuries, as well as a dynamic program of exhibitions and activities, Archivo has established itself as a pioneering space and a reference for the architectural and design community in Mexico. Founded in 2012 by Fernando Romero and Soumaya Slim, more than a simple design archive or gallery, Archivo functions as an active research tool and gathering space for the Mexican design community, a forum for exchange and debate. Housed in a remarkable mid-century modern house by artist and architect Arturo Chávez Paz—neighbouring Luis Barragán's own UNESCO World Heritage house and studio, in the traditional neighborhood of Tacubaya—Archivo seeks to reaffirm the importance of design in everyday life, as an area of inquiry that integrates technical, productive, cultural and creative processes.
