Our beloved Alice Read (Cal Poly c/o 2018) tragically passed away on Sunday, November 14th, 2021. Alice was not only an incredible daughter & sister, but a friend to all. Alice dedicated her life to her many passions - corporate success, building community with friends & family, distance running, alpine skiing, world travel & road biking. During her time at Cal Poly as a student, Alice was actively involved in Chi Omega, served on the Executive Board for the American Marketing Association, and was an OCOB Director on the ASI Board of Directors. After graduation, Alice continued to be a leader while working in Marketing at Snowflake and Salesforce, and building her community in both San Francisco and San Diego. Alice touched the lives of many through her brilliance, tenacity, discipline, and fun-loving nature. We miss her every day. In honor of Alice’s legacy as a leader at Cal Poly, her friends & family have come together to create the Alice Read Scholarship Endowment Fund in her memory, to inspire the next generation of leaders like Alice. The Alice Read Memorial Scholarship, awarded annually, will serve students who embody Alice’s spirit of leadership, exemplify her passion for business, and epitomize her love for and engagement in her community. To ensure Alice’s legacy, Alice’s Scholarship will be set up as an Endowed Fund, managed through the Cal Poly Foundation, so that her Scholarship can be awarded for years to come. Once a $25K threshold is met, 4% will be paid out annually, forever, for a minimum award of $1K per year, starting Spring 2023. The more funds raised, the more students we can benefit in Alice’s memory. All donations are tax-deductible & eligible for Employee Match. After making a gift to the Scholarship Fund, complete & submit a matching gift application, and your employer will send matching funds that will go towards Alice’s Scholarship.
