Overview

The ALFA project, which runs from 2022 to 2025, is an EU-funded project with the objective to increase the adoption of renewable energy sources in the EU by fostering the adoption of technologies using animal waste to produce biogas. Why? A higher share of biogas would lead to a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from the lower use of fossil fuels and from improved manure management. Our approach ALFA will try to enhance the market adoption of biogas by supporting livestock farmers overcome existing barriers in different ways, among others: (a) through research, analyzing local challenges and including local stakeholders in co-designing solutions to overcome them; (b) via financial, business, and technical support services and seminars; (c) improving the societal acceptance of biogas facilities amongst citizens through awareness-raising campaigns; (d) by formulating policy recommendations Where? ALFA will deploy its support services to farmers and will conduct its stakeholder consultation activities in 6 EU countries: Belgium, Denmark, Greece, Italy, Slovakia and Spain. Who? The ALFA project consists of a shared effort between 10 project partners: (1) Q-PLAN, the project coordinator, (2) APRE, (3) Azzero CO2, (4) FCBD, (5) SIE, (6) CERTH, (7) White Research, (8) PEDAL Consulting, (9) European Dairy Farmers (EDF), and (10) the European Biogas Association (EBA).
