Movers Against Domestic Violence Ltd

Non-profit Organization Management

Overview

Movers Against Domestic Violence Ltd (Movers) is a not-for-profit, Benevolent Institution with a dedicated team made up of real people who care about and are committed to helping survivors of domestic and family abuse escape from crisis situations – quickly, efficiently and safely – so they can move out for good. Domestic violence doesn't discriminate. In Australia, 1 in 6 women and 1 in 16 men have experienced physical or sexual violence by a current or previous partner since the age of 15. Similarly, 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men have experienced emotional abuse by a current or previous partner since the age of 15. Scarily, only 50% of cases are reported to the police. Leaving a violent household can be one of the hardest obstacles for victims of domestic abuse to overcome. That’s where we come in. While navigating domestic violence is an exceedingly complex and emotionally sensitive issue, our purpose at Movers is clear, simple and practical – we roll up our sleeves and get straight to work on removing the barriers to exit. Our practical support coordinating moves also includes the delivery of goods and services that assist victims in need with their exit strategy. A service that exists in no small part thanks to the kind donations of our meaningful corporate partners. Movers has assisted over 200 families to date, but we know there’s more work to be done and we are currently working to expand our reach to help more Australian families in need. Let’s get moving, for good.
