Overview

While every contribution counts, the Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani Anti-Corruption Excellence Award is to be awarded annually in recognition and appreciation of the most innovative, informative and committed initiatives in the global campaign against corruption and poor governance, by individuals, groups and organizations, to promote and encourage global anti-corruption action. Since there are several frontiers to combating corruption, the awarded will be given through 4 categories, Anti-Corruption Lifetime Achievement, Anti-Corruption Academic Research, Anti-Corruption Innovation and Anti-Corruption Youth Creativity, highlighting excellence through continuous dedication, scientific investigations and inquiries, innovative approaches, and youth engagement and creativity, respectively. In support of the United Nations, and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime in particular and its anti-corruption mandates, the Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani Anti-Corruption Excellence Award will be attributed annually on December 9, through an award ceremony in either Doha or Vienna. The greater purpose of the award, is to serve as a tool that highlights exemplary and noteworthy actions and good practices, on a global scale, to recognize, promote, collect and disseminate anti-corruption models from around the world, to raise awareness, support and solidarity to the cause, as well as to encourage and inspire identical, similar and new initiatives towards a corruption-free global society. Through publicization, we hope to enhance the visibility of such works, and motivate governing bodies, organization, academics, the media and civic society to adopt the principles of the United Nations Convention against Corruption, and collaborate towards their implementation.
