4D Architects is an architectural office based in Amsterdam, founded by Dr. Elma Durmisevic. The office contributes actively to the practice and theory of sustainable design and promotes and develops new reversible circular building concepts. Next to the building design 4D Architects and its founder Dr. Elma Durmisevic contributes to numerous European Research Projects and is active in the research and development of reversible building design protocols and measurement tools. The research is carried out in the field of sustainable building focusing on the aspects of transformable structures, design for disassembly and circular product design. In last 25 years of internationaly recongnised frontrunning research in a feald of sustainable deisgn and circulair building Dr. Durmisevic developed design guidelines, protocols and tools for reversible circular buildings forming reversible building design (RBD) toolkit. The RBD toolkit supports design and categorisation of circular profiles of buildings including a BIM based tool for digital reversibility assessment with Reuse Potential score system for building materials. The model Durmisevic was one of fundaments of EU Buildings as Materials Banks project and is used for development of EU Interreg Digital Deconstruction Platform.
