Overview
350 Chicago’s nonprofit’s mission is to bring Chicagoland citizens into the global climate movement that is 350.org. It serves as a space for Chicagoans to turn their despair into action and create hope for a habitable future on Earth. 350 Chicago is building a future that's prosperous, equitable and safe from the effects of climate change through a just transition to 100% renewable energy for all, no new fossil fuel projects anywhere, and not a penny more for dirty energy. We will accomplish these goals through our fossil fuel divestment campaign and our membership in renewable energy coalitions. We seek to connect with communities of like-minded organizations to build our collective power. ----------- We are building grassroots support in Chicago to divest the city’s operational budget and pension funds away from fossil fuels. Grassroots support will encourage the Chicago City Council to pass an ordinance to immediately freeze any new investments in the top 200 fossil fuel companies and divest from direct ownership and any commingled funds that include fossil fuel public equities and corporate bonds within 5 years. Building support from pensioners and union members will pressure the Pension Boards to divest Chicago pension money as well.
