I am writing this letter in recommendation of Whitney Allison. Whitney was an excellent employee and I hope I can express in this letter the extent of which I believe she will be a great addition to your team. I have known Whitney for over a year now. She worked as a full-time co-op student for a co-op term in our office of Space Planning and Design at Northeastern. During this time, Whitney demonstrated a solid knowledge in basic architectural practices, learned a good amount about interior design, program planning and FFE design. She always showed an eagerness to learn and develop her skill set, and was never afraid to ask for help or further explanation if she did not understand something. Whitney had little knowledge construction documents and AutoCad and some good ideas in interior design when she applied to our office for a co-op job. She worked diligently the first few weeks to learn everything she needed to know to work efficiently. She worked very hard to overcome her lack of Cad skills by constantly looking for better, faster ways to do things. Whitney frequently went above and beyond the work load that was given to her. For example, she created a AutoCad helpful tips and shortcuts training manual in her down time at work and presented it to me as a means to help us train new employees, based on the things she learned while on co-op. Whitney was a great student, but also turned out to be a great teacher. Over the semester in which I mentored Whitney, her skill set in AutoCad and architectural design grew immensely and she was always eager to learn new tricks of the trade and would share her learning with her fellow co-op students. These are qualities that I find incredibly important in work as well as in everyday life. While supervising Whitney, I assigned her several small projects in which she was allowed to work on the project on her own, with minimal supervision from me. This is something we only allow our very best students to do. She met with the clients, talked to them about their space needs and designed spaces that were appropriate. She handled the projects from the early phase of documenting existing conditions through compiling construction documents. She handled the clients with great professional attitude and her designs were entirely fitting and appropriate. I received nothing but positive feedback from everyone she interacted with. Whitney has incredible potential as an architect and designer, and I am excited to see what the future holds for her. She is practical and pragmatic in her design approaches, while still having the creative flair to make her designs interesting and different. I was sad to see Whitney end her co-op semester as it meant that we would no longer have her as part of our team. I give my strongest recommendation to you, and would highly encourage you to accept her to your team. Please to not hesitate to contact me if you would like any further information.
