  NetApp ($3.5B/year) is a leading provider of network storage for enterprise and SMB customers. As Senior IT Manager, directed staff of three managers and 29 system administrators within two data centers (Sunnyvale and Haifa). Provided key support to NetApp’s Engineering organization on a budget of up to $20M/year.  Due to NetApp’s rapid growth, Engineering had never developed business continuance or disaster recovery plans. Immediately led effort to design and implement new backup and recovery system based on NetApp’s existing SnapImage and VLT technologies, protecting NetApp from critical business disruption.  As budgets tightened, developed plan to reduce IT operational costs within Engineering by creating second data center in Haifa, resulting in cost reduction of $6M/year.  Allied effort with Facilities organization by developing highly modular data center plan that reduced original cost by $4.2M and original schedule by 2 weeks.  Overcame resistance to plan from Haifa team by personally leading development and deployment of data center in Haifa. Created strong rapport with team to facilitate effort.  Spearheaded effort to implement VMware within both data centers and Engineering labs, resulting in more efficient utilization of IT resources, increased effective capacity of IT infrastructure, and cost savings of $60M/year.  Forged strong alliance with QA organization to accelerate VMware deployment within labs.  Overcame concerns about VMware performance within Build and Release organization by deploying their solution within the Development sandbox and demonstrating that it outperformed their existing build environment by 30% (6 hours).  Personally responded to daily service tickets to build rapport with end users and fill resource gaps. As Senior IT Manager, directed staff of 19 system administrators in five different sites in western United States and Canada. Provided key support to backup software business units on a budget of up to $45M/year.  After several major acquisitions, led effort to consolidate four geographically dispersed data centers down to a central data center based in Santa Clara, while maintaining overall SOX compliance. Effort dramatically improved organization’s operational efficiency and reduced costs by $10M/year.  Following EMC’s acquisition of VMware, created virtualized data center to support EMC’s key customer portal, software.emc.com. This was the first-ever virtualization deployment within a data center anywhere in the industry.  Planned, designed, and implemented this data center, which included hands-on installation of fully virtualized directory servers, web servers, databases, and storage using VMware’s ESX servers and EMC technology.  Completed data center deployment on schedule (6 months duration). As a result, demonstrated proof-of-concept for virtualization within data centers, and provided EMC with a way to showcase VMware technology to enterprise customers.  Drove effort to dramatically improve customer relationships with the backup software business units.  Implemented ITIL standards to improve reliability of organization’s service. Overcame silo issues within organization by rotating people through different assignments.  Effectively managed crises during critical moves. When email server went down due to hardware failure, took control of situation by creating temporary email solution and keeping customers informed of progress until situation was resolved.
