I have been part of the first phase development model in helping structure the permaculture educational curriculum with the field team.   Working alongside other experts within the field on content development for the “WorldVeg Learning toolbox on vegetable home gardening in the tropics”. The objective of this consultancy was to develop a modular framework of home garden learning materials that any future home garden project could use, either directly or indirectly by adapting it to the local context. The materials would be publicly available so that other organizations can also use them, thereby scaling-out our approach, and positioning WorldVeg as a key knowledge source for vegetable garden interventions.   I was appointed to take on the leadership role at PRI Kenya after serving almost five years as the Education Programme Manager at PRI Kenya. I was responsible for the overall management, overseeing all office and field operations and logistics, strategy and programme delivery. I managed all partnerships and communications, this included donors, organizational partners and individual partners, also offering mentorship to young permaculture trainers coming up. I also managed PRI Kenya’s consultancy programme which boosted our clientele portfolio significantly, all over East Africa. PRI Kenya is a Kenyan registered NGO set up in 2011 with the aim of providing an umbrella for permaculture education, projects and research in East Africa.Our aim is to promote a permaculture whole systems approach to building empowered, climate resilient, healthy and food secure East African communities.Our vision is to see a community-led development towards a sustainable future that has the permaculture ethics of care of the earth, care of people and fair distribution of resources at its core.   I have helped set the Permaculture Research Institute's Sales and Regenerative Enterprise-model - an innovative approach to development, combining permaculture and entrepreneurship. We work with local partners on food security and sustainable livelihoods through training in permaculture and enterprise skills alongside offering group development training such as leadership, gender and group dynamics. The process was to provide access to markets for organic farmers in the region on value added products. I managed the stories, partnerships and distribution access. The model was essentially designed to create access, ensure fair share and distribution, accountability measures and generate income for the PRI Kenya NGO to sustain itself. Show less

  I was appointed as the Education Programme Manager at PRI Kenya after successfully completing a three-month internship at PRI Kenya in 2012. I oversaw all educational activities and budgets, scholarship programme, prepared yearly schedules, communicated with potential partner sites to conduct permaculture training and consultancy all over East Africa, as far as Somaliland, Mafia Island, Uganda, Tanzania, to name a few, which saw at least more that 6,500 people trained to date since 2012. I worked alongside the Director at the time, on developing a participatory permaculture design curriculum which was offered to NGO’s across East Africa- this included several huge organizations such as Save the Children, Mercy Corps, Norweigian Refugee Council, Community Forest International, IDEEF, Kenya Institute of Itegrated Medicine and Trocaire.
