From the interview onward, Sean was impressive and very professional. Our company needed someone who could work independently on side-project tasks that we did not have enough time to devote to. Sean earned our trust quickly, taking instructions that were often very short and vague and producing results. We often only had simple ideas of what we wanted to accomplish, with no specific set of procedures. Sean was able to effectively produce files that we will continue to use in the future. There were several industry-specific concepts that Sean was introduced to that he was able to pick up quickly. His background in Finance and skills with Microsoft Excel were very helpful to our team. Sean has an exceptional attitude and fit into our office culture perfectly. He is extremely professional (especially for his status as a college student), but was also very easy to get along with day-to-day. Once his semester internship was complete, we were happy to have Sean continue to come in a few times a week while he was able to. I would highly recommend Sean to any potential employer.

My focus of the internship at Valspar was with the Treasury department while also assisting the Sourcing and Accounting departments. One project I completed was I created a spreadsheet database that will track monthly global bank account fees. These fees will be compared to the negotiated pricing contracts with the banks to ensure there is no differences in this pricing from what is charged monthly. This position allowed me to demonstrate my flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic and global business environment. I was also challenged to manage different priorities and projects while being able to work in a fast-paced business environment.

My main objective was a summer long project regarding the financial literacy of Millennial-aged individuals (ages 18-35). I was able to obtain research for this project by being an inaugural participant on the Millennial Trains Project. This 10-day trip consisted of traveling from San Francisco to Washington, DC on vintage train cars while stopping in various cities and college campuses along the way to gain insight on where students stand when it comes to financial literacy. Furthermore, I assisted in the research of the banking industry when it comes to prepaid debit cards as well as mobile banking technologies. I also helped consolidating fixed asset invoice and recording expenses using accounting ledger software.
