I can highly recommend Sarah's performance in a management role. She was a strong leader, with great people skills and clear communication. I was very impressed with her people management and HR skills and equally her ability to pull things together and get things done. She has strong problem solving skills, with the ability to focus on the operational requirements of the organisation, and help implement improvements to ensure systems are fit for purpose and as efficient as possible. She delivered clear results in her work as Produce & Sales Coordinator at Cultivate Christchurch, and then when she moved into the General Manager role she went above and beyond, in very challenging circumstances. Her resilience, communication style and adaptability was impressive, and also hugely appreciated.

Sarah took on more than we all expected when starting out at Cultivate as maternity cover for the Sales and Produce Coordinator role. She also took on the General Manager role (at the same time) to cover my maternity leave. Cultivate went through massive changes during her time including a restructure and most recently closing the business side of the social enterprise - all during the depths of a pandemic. Her ability to foresee what needed to happen in a timely manner, manage so many different elements within a system and gracefully support staff who were new or adjusting to the new, has been inspirational. Sarah is a leader who holds people accountable in their role with diligent, kind support and solutions when required. She is skilled in implementing and maintaining systems and processes to support BAU and the chaotic unknown. During this time the Cultivate environment was high risk with requirements of being essential workers during a pandemic while employing highly vulnerable young people. Sarah can rise above and ensure the workplace is safe and supportive of all people while also delivering a high quality product and service to the community. Sarah’s customer service skills were demonstrated through the retention and onboarding of new customers. She created and kept upto date marketing content of high standard for different platforms (social media, pamphlets and newsletters). I have really enjoyed working with Sarah, she’s actually been my sanity saver during this time. Knowing she will ask for help when she needed it was also important during such difficult and uncertain times.

Growing Communities is a pioneering community-led organisation based in London, providing a real, practical alternative to the current damaging food system. They run a successful organic fruit and veg scheme, the Farmers’ Market in Stoke Newington and also grow their fruit and veg in Hackney and Dagenham - while training new entrants in farming and food production. They also consider the bigger picture and work to create wider change: articulating their vision, advocating in support of their aims and replicating their projects.
