Sally sits at the pointy end of social entrepreneurship in Australia. She is not only empowering women in low socioeconomically areas in Cambodia, she is inspiring Australian women every day. Her accomplishments are nothing short of extraordinary yet she is one of the most down to earth and caring people I know. After working in the sector as a social entrepreneur myself for 17 years, Sally is a standout. I'm so proud of her achievements and am honoured to know her. I can only imagine what this amazing women will achieve in the future. Most importantly, Sally continues to change the lives of so many women, positively impacting wider communities in Cambodia. the world needs more people like Sally and I'm blessed to know her.

Sally is as driven and committed as they come in the fundraising and advocacy space. I've had the privilege of working with her at HHA Inc for over one year now, and her relentless drive to empower others to lift themselves out of poverty is both inspiring and contagious. I highly recommend her speaking and leadership services, and I know for certain that anyone who gets to spend time with her will walk away thinking differently about development and sustainability.

My manifesto, 'It's Not About Me', was published by Elephant House Press in May 2019. “I have read Sally’s book in one weekend and absolutely loved it and shared it for my family to read. I admit we have fallen under the traps of voluntourism ourselves and we knew it was not exactly right. Sally genuinely shares her stories with great humour and expertise. At the end of the read, you will feel comfortable being even more generous with a true impact for Cambodia, any countries in the world and any causes you are passionate about,” – Helene Do.

In response to the issue of poverty in Cambodia and a dependence on voluntourism, I developed a grassroots community centre with a team of local staff. Along with breaking the cycle of poverty and developing self-sufficiency away from voluntourism, the additional aim was to ensure the community centre became Khmer led and run. In partnership with the community, I initiated and implemented a range of educational and vocational programs to alleviate some of the most pressing social issues. These programs included a preschool, sewing and textile employment program, community education workshops and university scholarships. Key achievements: • Hiring, mentoring and developing a team of 15 Khmer employees • Developing a textile and handicraft business, with products sold in Cambodia and Australia • Sourcing funds for and designing a permanent location for the organisation. • Developing a database of ongoing donors and ensuring a consistent stream of income • Creating strong relationships with foundations that are maintained to this day I successfully passed all my responsibilities to local staff due to my commitment to capacity building, identifying training needs, initiating weekly internal training sessions and sourcing external training opportunities for staff. This organisation is now entirely run by Cambodians and leading the way in demonstrating that locally run NGO’s are effective in developing communities.
