Bangalore The project deals with the design of HT Capacitor Test system using STATCOM. This system is designed to overcome the drawbacks of using reactors for testing of capacitors. In this project the test setup using STATCOM is simulated using MATLAB software. The routine tests carried on HT capacitors involve large amounts of capacitive reactive power, being pumped back to the supply. The routine tests carried on HT capacitors involve large amounts of capacitive reactive power, being pumped back to the supply. This in ideal case leads to leading power factor, and also increases the KVA maximum demand on the utility. For economic utilization of power, the capacitors are tested using parallel reactors in resonance with test object. The reactive power compensation is obtained using reactors and Thyristor-based power electronic circuits. Show less
