I'm incredibly excited to start the new year as a project manager for the National Youth Council of Iceland, where I can continue to work towards a society where young people enjoy equal rights and are free from discrimination based on age, background or any other characteristics. A society in which young people are respected as active democratic citizens and are included in all decision-making processes, not only concerning them, but also society as whole.

My role included organising meetings and student engagement, advocacy missions and external communications, as well as representing SCRAP at high profile disarmament conferences, including ICAN 2020 and the NPT RevCon. activities. I was the strategist for the #FreezeWeapons campaign, calling on States to freeze weapons production and supply and direct investment to healthcare in light of COVID-19. SCRAP is a holistic approach to global disarmament that proposes adopting an international legally binding agreement for general and complete disarmament. It draws on best practices of past agreements to expand the idea of what is possible in disarmament. SCRAP comes from the initiative of students, alumni and staff at the Centre for International Studies and Diplomacy (CISD) at SOAS, University of London, and is actively supported by a committee of academics and NGO officials with governmental experience.

In EIC children (mainly Japanese elementary students from grade 3 to 6) are challenged to live together and discover their potential with staff and camp leaders who come from different nationalities and mother tongue languages. We gathered together and communicated using only English as a tool. It is our hope that by using their English ability not only to understand different cultures, sharing their thoughts and respecting one another; but to nurture individuals who can grow and develop and make a contribution to world peace too.During my one month as an English Immersion Camp Leader, I was expected to advocate English to young children (age 6-9) in a fun and interesting way, as well as teach them about global thinking and social responsibilities.
