I worked in surgical ICU as a registered nurse where I got chance to learn and get hands on experience on critical patient care. My primary responsibilities involved ventilator care, tracheostomy care, colostomy care, surgical dressing, feeding, ambulation and physio therapy. I delivered intravenous (IV), oral, subcutaneous and intramuscular (IM) medications. My duties in ICU also included nasogastric tube insertion, cannula site care, catheter insertion, and postmortem care. As an ICU nurse, I prepared individualized Nursing Care Plans to my assigned clients and provided care accordingly. I followed nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation) while taking care of my patients. I received patients from operation theater and also provided counseling to families of patients during admission and discharge. Show less
