In my role working as a Design Technician, I worked alongside the design development department and the project managers to provide general arrangements and detailed technical drawings that reflects the clients project brief and specifications not only for construction but also for our team on site. One of our most popular projects was for the V&A Museum which we manufactured and installed The Alexander McQueen exhibition which was a huge success and the design was flawless to experience. My time at PwC was work placements that I attended on my summer breaks from university during my 2nd and 3rd year of studying. Whilst working at PwC in London I helped out with concepts, inputting data, attending meetings and going on many site visits to offices like the Embankment PWC offices, The Strand offices and More London. I was also elected tasks to source and come up with ideas that would help make decisions for the PwC offices in Edinburgh. My time at BDP was granted work placements on three separate occasions during my breaks at university in my 2nd and 3rd year.I learnt new skills within commercial design; sourcing samples, having discussions with the team in all design fields and helping out with concepts, plans and 3D modelling on projects BDP are working on.I also learnt new software’s, including InDesign and developing my skills in Photoshop to create rendered perspectives, manipulating images, sourcing resources, attending meetings with clients and creating final proposal packs which included my visuals for BDPs clients which all gave me the confidence and knowledge to take forward.

My involvement with The Engagement & Support Team was to help fellow art students with personal and practical concerns in college life, to encourage students to participate and engage in college by getting involved in various events. I gave advice to develop ideas and how students could improve their projects. I also contributed in college events such as the college carol service and art exhibitions throughout the year, showing visitors around the campus and helping with the preparation that goes into such events. This enabled me to communicate effectively to other people for them to get the best experience.

Through this process of working on a construction site I gained valued knowledge of the design process with looking through architectural drawings, working with the team on site, going out on site and having inductions into health and safety when on and off site.
