I started managing Rob when he was a very green graduate journalist, but even then was impressed by his drive, enthusiasm and commitment to the role. Over the following years he grew in skills and experience, and was promoted twice while I managed him, including to Deputy Editor. I have always been incredibly impressed by his tenacity, excellent writing and nose for stories - he produced some fantastic exclusives during my time working with him, and secured interviews with many hard-to-get industry figures. He's also shown great initiative and creative thinking, as well as an adaptability that is essential to the industry. Rob is going to have an impressive and long career in journalism, and I'd highly recommend him to any employer.

I first met Rob at my local sailing club where he was working his way through university. At the time he was writing both a novel and an autobiography of one of the members but knew he would also need some experience in commercial writing if he was to increase his chances of future employment. To that end, I offered him an informal internship working alongside me to advise on matters of marketing and sales for our Maritime Security Training Company, which he gladly accepted. In the six months he has been advising us he has given invaluable advice on marketing techniques and the use of social media resulting in a significant increase in both enquiries and sales. During this time, I have been very impressed by the dedicated manner with which Rob approaches a project. Highly intelligent and with a maturity, motivational level and seriousness of purpose which I have rarely encountered in one so young, Rob also has a very pleasant disposition and a highly developed sense of humour which have made him a pleasure to work with. Quick to learn, well organised and able to manage his time effectively, Rob achieves first class results with the minimum of fuss and his excellent writing and editing skills have proved invaluable in helping us with our marketing campaign. In conclusion, Rob is an extremely impressive and likeable young man and I am confident that he has the work ethic and personal qualities to succeed in whatever career path he chooses.
