Rhina Guidos can find a story -- a good story -- wherever she goes, especially overseas! She has a nose for news but also really notices people, can talk to them easily and listens very well. She has a very good understanding of situations in other countries -- especially in Latin America. She moves easily in all kinds of economic circles. Her author's voice is unique, too. She is truly a storyteller. I have edited her stories from El Salvador and Cuba, among other places, and they are unlike any other reporter's. She works in details without making the story cumbersome and is able to illustrate the big picture by telling the story through people and their circumstances. She communicates well with editors, hits deadlines on time and makes sure all her facts are correct! I highly recommend her!

Rhina is a top-notch journalist, capable in all areas of news reporting, with a unique ability to build sources and engage those reluctant to speak with members of the media. She is as comfortable in hard-hitting news and features as she is in insightful analysis. I’ve traveled with Rhina on international and domestic assignments and marvel at her skills in the field. Employing all digital tools of the trade, Rhina uses her photo, video and social media skills to draw an audience to her craft. She’s a true 21st century storyteller. Her standards are high and her ethics are impeccable.

Supervised the night cops desk from 2010 to 2012 for Delaware's largest newspaper. Using content management, I updated the Delawareonline.com homepage with breaking news, organized and edited coverage for the local print section and teased our print and online content on various social media platforms for The News Journal/Delawareonline.com. From 2008 to 2010, I served as the Social Media Editor and established the newspaper's Twitter feed and Facebook page. I also worked in the niche products section and was editor of two weekly magazines. From 2005 to 2008, I supervised six reporters on the day cops desk that included breaking news, local and state government and crime and court beats. I've coached reporters on story structure, pitched stories at news meetings and written performance reviews.

As a general assignment reporter based out of Salt Lake City, I reported and wrote about crime and courts, breaking-news, immigration, tribal issues and feature stories -- anything that required a fast learner and a speedy writer. I was the main writer when a prominent Utah architect was killed in the Guatemalan countryside, and lended a hand when colleagues needed Spanish-language translation. I also assisted in reporting the 2004 national crime story of Lori Hacking, a Salt Lake City woman killed by her husband.

Wrote about the K – 12 education system in Central Washington, including the challenges faced by rural communities. In my downtime, I researched and reported a story about Washington's dying sheep industry. It led a to a three-day series that won the top prize for feature writing in the 2003 C.B. Blethen Awards. In 1999, I convinced the newspaper's Executive Editor that the Reno Gazette-Journal needed a minority issues beat to cover the changing face of Northern Nevada and also the face of Nevada that rarely received coverage: American Indians. She agreed and I became the newspaper's first minority issues beat reporter where I wrote extensively about American Indian tribes. I also wrote about labor issues affecting women in the casino industry, including one about a bartender fired for not wearing makeup, which became an international story. I also used my Spanish-language skills to explore the growth of Northern Nevada’s Latino population. My beat coverage led my newspaper to nominate me for the “Nevada Woman of the Year Award” in 2001.
