My current role includes designing commercial retail spaces, office tenant fit-outs, and high-rise residential condos. While my background and focus is in mechanical systems, DDG prides itself on designers that can provide holistic and integrated designs, expecting every member to be well versed in all trades. I also have developed into a BIM Coordinator at DDG, taking on both small and large scale projects as a consultant to mechanical or plumbing contractors during the construction phase. My duties generally include coordinating with other trades at BIM meetings, assisting with RFIs, working with manufacturers to model equipment accurately, and creating penetration/shop drawings for the field. I also have experience leading BIM Coordination working to facilitate coordination between trades, run clash detection and manage the overall model. My specific interest in energy of mechanical systems has landed me in an expanded role of an energy modeler as well. I have been tasked with creating energy models for buildings to inform architectural or mechanical design choices, demonstrate energy compliance with building code, and demonstrate energy reductions from a baseline to achieve LEED, Energy Star, or Green Globe ratings.

I have reviewed architectural drawings to determine materials of construction, HVAC equipment, and any information about the building that could lead to energy efficiency implementation. I have also calculated energy savings and payback periods for a variety of energy efficiency measures. I looked at AHU turn down/off and calculated associated savings in chilled water, reheat, fan power, and pump power. I created optimal sequences of operations for AHUs using variable speed drives and affinity laws. I examined heat recovery units to determine optimal operating temperature ranges with regards to return air temperature and percent outdoor air. I reset VAV box minimums and developed occupancy sensor program. My time at Energy resources group has given me the opportunity to work on a variety of projects: a college art building, single story home, office building . Show less
