Paul is a dedicated and passionate project manager, willing to go beyond the call in order to achieve success in the projects he manage. He has excellent people skills, with the ability to persuade and motivate team members to the benefit of the project. As a colleague, Paul was always willing to assist and support – a true team player. Apart from being an experienced and extremely capable project manager, Paul also has strong technical skills which have proven to be advantageous to the projects he managed. He is a pleasure to have around and I believe he will fit in and be a great asset to any organisation that employs him.

I worked with Paul on two major renewable energy related projects in South Africa. We dealt with a very demanding "Tier-A" European Customer, in an environment where the design requirements were quickly changing in order for us to find the most suitable technical solution. Paul demonstrated more than once his passion for the projects, remarkable communication skills and he led the technical team that Powertech assigned to the project supporting us with commercial and scheduling related challenges. I cannot even remember how many times he picked up his phone and made a plan for us during non-working hours and days….this is what a Client is looking for when dealing with a critical supplier! Paul played an important role for the success of the projects and I’m very grateful for what he did. Hopefully we’ll have a chance to work together again.

Infratec specialises in the design and construction of PV solar plants with the majority being located on Pacific Islands. During my time as Project Manager with Infratec I've been focused on delivering Ground mount and Rooftop grid-connected and off-grid solar systems on various islands including, Nauru, Pohnpei (FSM), Majuro (RMI), Koror and Kayangel (Palau) and Kiritimati. These projects were very challenging with a range of constraint e.g. resources, logistics, weather, etc. but it gave me the opportunity see some of the most beautiful places in the world, make a difference in providing clean energy to these islands and to be involved in the upliftment of communities through skills development. Many of these projects are funded through aid organisations and governments having an interest in the upliftment of Pacific countries and I thoroughly enjoyed contributing to their efforts. Powertech System Integrators is a company that specializes in engineering solutions for Energy and Power Infrastructure Management with around 200 staff members. In my position as Project Manager I handled multiple projects from a diverse fields, including: renewable energy, energy efficiency, energy and water metering, multidisciplinary industrial projects and mining, substation automation and protection. I have enjoyed involvement in a multitude of projects in very interesting locations, ranging from energy efficiency projects located in mines 2km underground, to renewable energy projects in remote areas in the Karoo, South Africa , to Energy Metering projects in East Africa. I have also been fortunate to have worked with diverse teams from all over the world, executing these project. I take ownership of the delivery of my projects, even under the most adverse of conditions, always with the full support from administration and engineering staff. I firmly believe my engineering background and people management experience will serve me well in my future endeavors. I continue to grow and expand on my skills in the fields of stakeholder, financial, risk and contract management. Show less

ENCEE Engineering has its roots in the assemble of military grade PCB (Printed Circuit Boards) with around 25 staff members. I managed the production facility where we assembled SMD and through hole PCBs for the military and transport industries. The facility also produced custom inductors and transformers that were not generally available in the market. The team I lead consisted of 12 PCB assembly operators, 1 SMD production technician and 4 Test Technicians. When I joined the company, there was no computerized system to track work orders, which made it difficult to determine the status of any job. I implemented a database system that kept accurate records of the jobs on the production line. The system also gave me the ability to recall information down to component level for each build, a requirement of our Military customers. The interventions paid off and we improved the throughput of the production facility by 20%, maintaining IPC 610 level 3 standards and becoming a ISO9001 approved facility. The role also gave me the opportunity to stay actively involved in the engineering and fault-finding of embedded hardware and software systems which I am passionate about. Show less

Observer Technologies specialized in Fleet Management, Fire Protection and Security products with a staff total of around 30. My role entailed development of a new controller for a Fire Protection System for Mining vehicles. The system used fast-acting nozzles to deliver fire-retardant foam to the engine compartment of the mining vehicles. The system had to be ruggedized to withstand the harsh conditions of mining in the Australian Outback. I enlisted the assistance of a contractor to assist with the PCB layout and firmware of the system as well as the production of a prototype. After extensive testing of the controller with fire retardant hardware we had to industrialize the product to get it ready for production. I was also actively involved in the preparation of marketing material and the compilation of specifications and datasheet of the system. Show less

Ibsar International, the communication division/affiliation of Riyam Engineering, specialized in Fleet Management and Vehicle tracking products and had around 10 staff members in the division. I developed and managed the communications department which sold and installed vehicle tracking and fleet management systems in Middle Eastern countries. This business development part of this role was particularly challenging, because commercial fleet management and vehicle tracking utilizing telemetry was a new concept in the Middle East at the time. I also spent significant time refining and building map layers in our GIS system, since accurate maps were not readily available. Rough terrain, long travel distances, remote areas and adverse weather conditions made maintenance of installed systems difficult and the situation called for innovative solutions to the problem. Irenco, a division of Denel, specialized in Fleet Management and Security products, with a staff total of around 50. I lead a team of 3 electronic technicians in the role of providing product support for the Observer Fleet Management and Vehicle tracking system, to our internal production line as well as corporate clients and distribution network. I was also actively involved with business development in a technical supportive role to our sales representatives. This role involved a lot of traveling to support and train our distribution network locally and internationally. I thoroughly enjoyed the travel, because it gave me the opportunity to interact with people from all walks of life. Show less

I was one of only 22 trainees selected Nationally to do my one-year practical training for my diploma with Siemens. Siemens had an excellent training program with the first 6 months training at an in house training center. This included courses like mechanical fitting, micro-controllers, PLC programming, three phase wiring and business basics. During the second half of the training we were placed in the departments our choice. I selected the Transportation Systems, Railway signalling division. During this training period I was involved in Project Planning and Management, Testing and commissioning of Railway interlocking systems and AzSM axle counter as well as updating of drawings in AutoCAD.
