INSO works with water, forestry, and health issues in the Central Valleys of Oaxaca Mexico. The organization is a politically active NGO, collaborating with local and regional citizens and governments, and other non-governmental organizations at the national and international level. In addition, INSO hosts the Oaxaca Water Forum and runs a farm that functions as a demonstration site for alternative technologies whose use they promote to visitors as diverse as school children, local government officials, small-scale farmers, and international service workers. I worked with INSO for seven months, taking water samples from across the Central Valleys, translating documents from Spanish to English, making recommendations regarding watershed management strategies, and conducting surveys regarding rainwater harvesting practices and perceptions.
