      • Aug 2016 - Aug 2017

The medical examiner transporter (ME) position involves working with multiple police departments and the medical examiner’s office to transport deceased individuals from any location in Hillsborough County to the ME’s office. It requires strength, both physical and mental, and an immense amount of empathy. The ME position not only requires heavy-lifting and problem-solving skills, but also compassion for family members who have just lost someone dear to them. In addition to duties in the field, ME transporters are responsible for assisting materials management at American Medical Response (AMR) Tampa headquarters by helping to stock ambulances, cleaning ambulances, and maintaining a clean and efficient work environment. I began working the night position beginning at 6:00pm and ending at 6:00am. I was moved to the day shift, however, beginning at 6:00am and ending at 6:00pm. This position also required an on-call shift beginning immediately after my on-duty shift, during which I could receive any number of calls throughout the night (or day, when I worked the night shift) as the need arose.

The bookseller position at Barnes & Noble is multi-faceted. It primarily involves interacting with and helping customers with whatever needs they have. Additionally, my specialty was in shelving, and so my shifts would typically begin one to two hours before the store opened. Each night, at closing time, the closing team roll out carts, stacked with books. My duty was to place all of these books in their respective locations, arrange them alphabetically, and meet the allotted timeframe set forth for each cart. During my final few months at Barnes & Noble, I was the only shelver left to stock a two-story store. In addition to my shelving duties, I would occasionally be placed in the music section, as I had rapport with my coworkers in that section. The music section, while technically part of the rest of the store, functioned somewhat differently, and so I was cross-trained as a bookseller and a music seller. This was a morning position beginning between 6:00am and 7:00am.
